SPRINGING INTO SUMMER:
AT COMMON GROUND GALLERY

Jessie Thetford's "Homage to the Drip," as well as more sombre portraits in the show, reveal an educated artist with a great depth of insight into the human condition, as well as a flair for the strong, bold use of light and dark, figuratively and literally.

Her work stares back at the viewer and makes one speculate. One viewer walked in the door and said "My God, the last King of Hawaii!" I see someone else.

Playing Around

3/12/2015

I'm getting a feel for my newer material. The folk and alternative rock influence is definitely present, which excites me. I'm stoked to nail down these fresh tunes and look forward to performing them for folks. I've already played a couple which were well received.

The newer material has a confessional feel, which is something I can't seem to escape. It captures me right now though, which I love. I hope the new tunes resonate with you as well.

xoxo,

I've been writing a ton lately.
I don't know what happens, to be honest.
Some days, it's just a need.

MAKING THE ALBUM ART

5/4/2014

Picture
I decided to design the album art myself, which was quite a learning experience.
First, I painted a moody blue-teal piece with acrylics. I knew I wanted an abstract cover with a print overlay. After photographing the painting, I worked in Adobe Illustrator to get my graphic design skills on - look Mom and Dad! I'm using my art degree!

It's crazy how many decisions can go into designing something so small.
Which font for the title? Lyrics? Binding? Colors? Spacing? How do you approach punctuation within the booklet? Alignment?  Lucky for me, I love getting lost in the details, not to mention having full control over design decisions. It felt good to visualize something and make it tangible.

In the end, I chose to use a clear jewel case and tray with a full color 16-page booklet (got to have those lyrics!) and a full color disc, tray inside, and tray outside - for those of you who are interested.  When you get my CD, you'll have not only 14 songs that are near and dear to this soul, but a small sampling of my artwork as well.  I'm so excited to share!

TOMORROW...

4/14/2014

Looks like I'm placing the order for the CD's tomorrow...

Kind of insane to see something immaterial come to fruition. I can't wait to hold my music in my hands!  So much work has gone into this album, and so many people have persevered through this process with me.  I am forever grateful.

So there you have it... CD's will be in production and available soon...
Time to schedule the album release party!

First music video.
Asking my boyfriend to the Sadie Hawkins Dance when I was 17.
Enjoy.
Disclaimer:  All dance moves were choreographed by my brother.

THE PROCESS

4/9/2014

I've been working away on the album art... Think deep moody blues, gray, and a touch of the abstract. Having a lot of fun hashing it out!  Can't wait to share.
